VAV (vis-a-vis) is composed of Grace Garcia & Alex Al-Hamdan. VAV is full of honest lyrics, kinetic beats, and jazzy/classical vocals.Admiration for art and movement is the main influence of this pioneering music collective. Vis-a-vis literally translates as "face to face"; coinciding with the visceral nature of each song's content. "...it's really about not being afraid of getting intimate, and by that I mean being able to say what you feel, do what you feel, and leave yourself vulnerable. That's been my life-long journey," expresses Grace Garcia. While searching for the right musicians and producers to compliment her songwriting, Grace eventually found Alex Al-Hamdan, a drummer of rock / funk / hip-hop origins who was then performing in Chicago's indie-electro scene. When asked about the formation of VAV, Alex reveals "...as a performing drummer, watching a crowded venue move to your beat is a rush like no other, but moving people on an emotional level requires more than a hypnotic rhythm. VAV allows us to create a whole that is greater than the sum of its parts." Vis-A-Vis finds inspiration in a diverse range of genres spanning from electronica, funk, rock, hip-hop, and pop. "Our mission is to transpose thought into action. Our vision is to turn music into movement."
